Thunukkai Divisional Mental Health Program for Preschool Teachers
The Thunukkai Divisional Mental Health Program for preschool teachers was successfully conducted over three days from 15th to 17th April 2026 at the MOH Conference Hall. This essential initiative was realized through a collaborative partnership between the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) office, the Education Department, and RAHAMA.
The "Good Helper" Concept
A cornerstone of this program was the integration of the FORUT Mental Health “Good Helper” concept. This framework emphasizes empathy, listening, and support in communities.
Preschool teachers were trained as “good helpers” to identify early emotional distress in children and provide appropriate psychosocial support or referrals when needed.
Child Protection and Safeguarding
Special emphasis was placed on child protection, including safeguarding children from abuse and harm.
Practical Wellbeing and Bonding
Sessions focused on improving emotional wellbeing, sleep routines, and parent-child bonding.
- Ensuring adequate sleep for children
- Helping children express emotions positively
- Encouraging daily parent-child bonding time
Moving forward, RAHAMA will continue to coordinate with the Education Department to strengthen preschool development programs and integrate the “Good Helper” concept sustainably.
