Establishing Tradition of SEED Bank Practice secures 50 Acres of paddy land of 25 Households for this MAHA Season.

Location: Kollavilankulam Village, Thunukkai Division, Mullaitivu District.

In the peaceful village of Kollavilankulam, set against the backdrop of Sri Lanka's Northern Province, lies stories of resilience of quiet bravery and enduring hope. The scars of the past conflict run deep here, but none deeper than in the home of one courageous mother. The Women Society of Manthai East and the Kollavilankulam Farmer Society has established a traditional community-driven approach of SEED Bank to distribute seeds to farmers in a rotation.

They only engage in paddy cultivation but also home gardening and Yala season crops. Every morning, before the sun fully rises, they step into their home garden. With her own hands, she nurtures green patches of brinjal, chili, and okra. For her, working the soil is more than just growing food. It is an act of self-sufficiency and resilience. Recognizing their cost share by land, fertilizer and human work RAHAMA extended a helping hand through our livelihood support initiative, providing 80 kilograms of high-quality paddy seeds distributed among 25 vulnerable households in Kollavilankulam village in partnership with Women Society of Manthai East.

Weeding, watering, and fertilizing without hiring external help, the farmers squeeze maximum value out of every limited resource. Each harvest directly feeds families and saves surplus income. Once harvested, the society will collect 80 Kg of paddy from each farmer and continue the distribution in rotation, proving that traditional practice can blossom even in the abandoned and tough land.

Yet, even under the weight of this emotional uncertainty, women-headed families and mother and men with disability stands firm. They balance daily household duties, physical farm work, and emotional caretaking with grace, remaining a beacon of stability for their families
