The strategic partners of RAHAMA started the strengthening of Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs in the Poonagary division of the Kilinochchi district covering approximately 115 preschools, where the facilities and capacities are inadequate to maintain the minimum standards and capacity among the preschool teachers. A needs assessment carried out by RAHAMA together with the Preschool Education Unit of the Kilinochi Education zone, and the Preschool teachers, who will formed into an alliance will contribute to the sustainability of the preschools (the ECDs). The beginning of the program started this week in Kilinochchi where the district and provincial education office taking part in this process together with 35 preschool teachers.
The program is aiming at not only the preschool education but focusing child rights and improving the access to service deliveries from the government and non-governmental /private sector organisations. The teachers who working under challenging conditions in this post war areas are really committed in developing the child development sector and they consider the positions are not to earn money but build the capacity of the children and to change the attitude of the parents towards sustainable preschool development though a more participatory approach and promote rights based programs.
