The economic empowerment programme

The economic empowerment programme of RAHAMA Sri Lanka is being implemented in four districts in the Northern region with specific
focus on women headed households, unemployed youth with median skills and low academic backgrounds including disabled youth. These
strategies are implemented through Co-operatives, civil organizations, higher education and National Housing Development Authorities with
the support and directions of the Divisional Secretaries and the District Secretaries. Resources used from 2010 to 2013 were basically treated
as relief based grants. Since re-cycling of resources is a good practice civil entities were capacitated to recover portion of grants released
for internal operation. From 2015 onward the respective civil entities were able to maintain higher degree of awareness within supported
member families and started recycling at least a proportion of the shared input reaching more deserved families.
